Happy Anniversary!

(Written 5/25/23)

Today marks our 38th wedding anniversary!  Happy Anniversary, Steve! It’s a day worth celebrating.  If you are married, you know that anniversaries come with much hard work and effort.

Marriage is humbling.  Your flaws, and insecurities stare you in the face as two sinful people attempt to become one flesh.

Our marriage is based on love and commitment.  As a family, Steve and I have faced the joys and sorrows of life together.  But I know this for sure.  If the Lord wasn’t the center of our marriage, we would not have made it to 38 years.

A Cord of Three Strands

Ecclesiastes 4:12 says:  Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three is not quickly broken.

There is power in numbers, especially if one of those numbers is the God of the universe!

As I read Ecclesiastes 4:12, I feel it’s strength building:

One person can be taken down—being vulnerable.

Two people can be defended, because two is better than one.

Two people plus God are not quickly broken.

The three cords are intertwined.  The unity of three cords produces strength and power, which is not available with just one or two cords.

Thank you, Jesus, for our 38 years of marriage and that You walk with us.  Thank you for the privilege of saying Happy Anniversary! for another year. Help me to daily demonstrate love and respect to Steve.  May our marriage be a visible sign of the covenant relationship we have with one another and with You. Amen.

Questions to Consider:

  1. If you are married, do you believe that Ecclesiastes 4:12 applies to your marriage?
  2. Sit down with your spouse and reflect upon some of the triumphs in your marriage.
