Always on My Mind

Do you remember the 1972 song, Always on My Mind? This ballad was performed by notable artists including Ellis Presley and Willie Nelson.  https://youtu.be/KQAsbAoEias?si=oeyKkCW18PGCNNVF Although this song is sad and full of regret, I am reminded of its title while studying Psalm 40.  For in this psalm, God highlights that we are always on His mind.

Great Title with New Lyrics

Not surprisingly, I’m sure that God would choose very different lyrics in His song, Always on My Mind. Because unlike the 1972 song, God gives no apologies. With tenderness, God treats us with extreme love and forgiveness, as He thinks about us continually.

God’s rendition of Always on My Mind would include thoughts from Psalm 40. You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds, and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you!  I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.  Psalms 40:5

Psalms 40:17 says…Yet the Lord thinks upon me.  Another version reads, but the Lord takes thought of me.

You Are Always on My Mind

How comforting to know that the God of the universe is personally thinking about you and me!  As we read, we see that Psalm 40 builds in intimacy.  Initially God is thinking about us in verse 5.  But by the end of the psalm, the pronoun has changed to me.  Can’t, you almost hear the Lord singing over you? Amazingly, we are always on His mind!

In case you don’t believe it, Zephaniah 3:17 confirms that God loves to sing over us.  The Lord your God is with you. He is mighty to save. He will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

You Are Not Alone

In the second half of Psalm 40, David, the author, is in a desperate situation.  He needs help.  He needs a deliverer.  Can you relate?  Are you in a tough spot right now?  Be encouraged.  You are not alone.  God knows your situation and is constantly thinking about you. In fact, His thoughts of you are so numerous, they cannot be counted!

Dear Father, Son, and Spirit, thank you for the sweet reminder that you are thinking about me.  I am always on your mind!  I praise you for that fact.  Amen.
