Being In the Waiting Room

Granted, no one likes to wait. When was the last time that you sat in the waiting room?  Perhaps your mind immediately visualizes a hospital. What emotions are triggered? Typically, this room is a place of anticipation. Occasionally, it becomes the place where life teeters in the balance, where hopes and dreams are suspended momentarily as you wait….and wait….and wait. I am convinced that being in the waiting room plays a huge role in the life of a Christ follower.  For it is here, where we plead with God and wait for answered prayer.

Wrestling with God in Prayer

We are told in God’s Word to pray continuously (1Thessalonians 5:17) and persistently (Luke 18:1-8).  But sometimes, our prayers don’t get an immediate answer.  Consequently, we find ourselves waiting on God to respond and to deliver us.

The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. Lamentations 3:25

Please be aware that the waiting room is not a passive, inactive place.  It’s a war room!  For here, we wrestle with God.  We don’t give up.  With desperation, we passionately cry out to God.  We battle for answered prayer, for God’s will to be done, for deliverance, for healing, for restoration.  Therefore, we are active participants, contending in faith, believing that God will answer through the power of His Name. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him, fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Psalm 37:7

But for you, O Lord, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer. Psalm 38:15.

Being In the Waiting Room, Changes Me

Consequently, what happens in the waiting room may be the key to answered prayer.  For as I wait, I am changed.  I grow in my knowledge of who God is.   My relationship with my risen Lord and Savior expands.  Moreover, I discover the depths of His love.  Finally, I experience the same power that rose Jesus from the dead.

In the waiting room….

Who would have guessed?

Dear Jesus, I want answered prayer now.  Unfortunately, I am impatient.  I don’t like to wait.  But the waiting has produced an unexpected result—intimacy with You!   Thank you, Jesus!
