Finding Treasure Amid the Gunk in Life
It’s been one of those weeks! Bad news and disappointment are bombarding me. Worry and fear want to dominate. I cry out to God for help, but all I hear is silence. Then in a sudden and an amazing way, God shows me His presence and power. Read about it in Finding Treasure Amid the Gunk in Life.
A Clogged Drain
My bathroom sink was draining slowly. Granted, bathroom sinks are notorious for hair and debris build up. Luckily, I have a plastic snake-like tool with jagged edges that remedies the problem. I put the snake down the drain, and it pulls out anything blocking water flow. Out of the drainpipe comes clumps of black, filthy gunk, and slimy hair.

To my surprise, debris isn’t the only thing that comes out of my drainpipe. My snake caught ahold of this necklace.
I have never seen this necklace before. Apparently, it’s been trapped and limiting water flow for a while. After cleaning and polishing, the necklace looks great! It’s a piece of jewelry that I can wear and enjoy. The necklace also symbolizes an important life lesson.
The Moral of the Story
This buried treasure puts a smile on my face. It reminds me that God is always with me.
“You can be sure that I will be with you always. I will be with you until the end of time.” Matthew 28:20b
Secondly, the necklace is a sign that God can bring something good out of my problems and heartache.
Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you. Ephesians 3:20

Dear Jesus, may I never doubt your presence and power in my life. I praise You for creating Treasure Amid the Gunk. Amen.

What a great story! I have fond memories of the time I was in chemo 8 years ago. I know that sounds weird…but my husband selflessly and lovingly took over the cooking and care of the household when I was too tired. His cooking experiments were mostly delicious and he made the most yummy orange shakes which really tasted good to me. One experiment didn’t turn out so well due to misreading the recipe, which we still laugh about today. It was a tender time and I felt God’s peace.
