God Calls Us Out of Hiding
I love comfort and security. My husband will verify, that I’m not much of a risk-taker. However, the longer I walk with Jesus, the more I realize that being a Christian means doing hard things. It’s listening to the Lord and responding with a willing heart. Therefore, we shouldn’t be surprised when God Calls Us Out of Hiding. The question is, “How will we respond?”
Am I Hiding?
I vividly remember one example where God called me out of hiding. Surprisingly, it was during COVID. COVID was a time that I felt especially close to the Lord. I made more time for Jesus because I needed Him.
I love to journal. During COVID, my writing increased. As I studied God’s Word, I prayed, listened, and wrote. Jesus spoke to me in new and exciting ways. I remember tears running down my face because I was so in awe of what God was speaking to my heart. With reservation, I slowly started sharing my writings with a few trusted friends and spiritual mentors.
To my surprise, responses were positive yet convicting. I was challenged to share my insights with others. I needed to come out of hiding.
Try as you might, when you are in hiding, you won’t find peace until you do something about it. The Lord keeps gently nudging until you walk in obedience.
Placed for a Purpose
I’m studying the book of Esther right now. Esther finds herself at the right place, at the right time, to be instrumental in saving the Jewish people from annihilation. To be clear, God saved; but Esther played a surprising role. A famous verse is found in Esther 4:14:
“If you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will come to the Jewish people from another place, but you and your father’s family will be destroyed. Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for just such a time as this.”
God Calls Us Out of Hiding
Until this point in Esther’s story, she had not revealed her nationality to the king. But at just the right time, God calls Esther out of hiding, because He had an assignment for her.
Likewise, God called me out of hiding to start a Christian blog. It hasn’t been easy. But I was willing to try.
I can personally say that it is scary to venture out of hiding. Vulnerability is required. What will people think of me? How can I possibly do what God is asking? Thankfully, when God calls us, He also equips us. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, He makes us strong and brave.
When I called out to you, you answered me. You made me strong and brave. Psalms 138:3
Is God calling you out of hiding? If so, don’t delay. You will be stretched and challenged. However, you will also be amazed at what God can accomplish through you.
Dear God, may I be willing to be used by You for such a time as this. Amen.
Questions to Consider:
- Is God calling you out of hiding? What has He been asking you to do?
- Share a time when the Holy Spirit gave you strength to do something hard.
