Home with Jesus No Matter Where I Live
And we will come to Him and make our home with Him. John 14:23b
Relocation Help
Our daughter’s recent job offer came with a relocation package. Relocation packages help ease the disruption of moving. They provide resources as you uproot and settle in a new city.
Steve and I aren’t moving because of work, but for health reasons. Still, I wish we had our own relocation package to assist with the move. Granted, moving involves countless details to navigate. It’s not just packing up personal possessions. It’s searching for a new community and place to belong.
Where is Home?
We often say home is where the heart is. But as we prepare to move, I keep asking myself–where is my heart?
Home carries deep emotion. It’s where comfort and familiarity meet. Memories are connected to a home—some good and others that we could do without. No doubt, we associate our home with people who have entered it and the community that surrounds it. Therefore, when we move, we aren’t simply changing locations. We are leaving behind layers of memories and looking forward to creating new ones.
Home with Jesus
Even so, I can rest in this truth. My ultimate home is with Jesus.
Recently did an exercise in Journaling with Jesus, www.journalingwithjesus.org where we reflected on our identity in Christ. Here are a few attributes that spoke to me:
I am chosen.
God is for me.
I have a calling and am distinctively crafted.
I am who you say I am.
The list ended with a powerful statement: Jesus is home. I stopped and reread this statement several times. I wanted to etch it in my heart.
There is no need to fret about our upcoming move. The truth is, I am already home with Jesus, no matter my address or zip code.
You Are My Heart’s Home Forever
The next morning, as if God underscored this lesson, my devotional reading included these prayers from A Prayer for Every Occasion by Carrie Marrs.
Help me to accept that change is part of life,
to welcome the newness each change brings,
and to embrace the gifts and joys of each season.
I trust Your guiding hand, God.
Help me adapt and
have a willing, adventurous spirit.
May I look for the valuable opportunities
You’re giving me in this situation
and make the most of them.
May I say yes to wherever You lead,
being glad and grateful to be on
a journey of discovery and growth with You.
And later:
Surround me now with Your unfailing love.
You are my refuge, my strong tower, my foundation.
You are my heart’s home forever,
no matter where I am or what happens around me.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I am so thankful that You are my true home. My house is physical dwelling; yet my home is in You. Moving does not change that fact. I praise You that You are my heart’s home forever. Amen.
Questions to Consider
- Why do we cling so tightly to our homes?
- What is the hardest part of moving for you?
- How can you confidently say that Jesus is your home?

I’m reading Ezekiel now. Over and over the LORD expresses his desire that men know He is the LORD. You exemplify that knowledge in your willingness (like Sarah) to go wherever He leads your husband. You will be missed here, but I rejoice in knowing I’ll see you in heaven if not before.

Thanks for your encouragement Julie! Also…I’m reading your trilogy–on the second book–Slaying The Serpent. They are so good! Congratulations!
