I Hear the Chimes

I hear the chimes. They are a sweet melody and a constant sound on our ranch.  Open the window or step outside, especially on a windy day, and I am greeted like a dear friend.  But do I really hear them? Psalm 34:8 reminds me to use my senses to Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man (or woman) who takes refuge in him.

Appreciating the Blessings Around Me

Have you ever become so familiar or desensitized to your surroundings that you forget to appreciate what you have?  Unfortunately, I think it happens often.  In the rush to accomplish my projects for the day, I can forget to pause, taste, and see the goodness of God.

As I grow in maturity in Christ, my wonder and awe of God’s presence is increasing.  Thankfully, God is correcting my eyesight and I’m seeing life more clearly.  Consequently, my senses are being aroused to the beauty and majesty of the Lord’s power and His lovingkindness.  I am tasting, smelling, feeling, and touching His presence.

I Hear the Chimes

Instead of yearning for something new or constantly desiring more blessings, I need to fully embrace all that I’ve been given.  Familiarity shouldn’t negate my pleasure and delight in what the Lord has provided.  Deuteronomy 28:3 says, “You have been abundantly blessed in the city and blessed in the country.” Indeed I have!

Heavenly Father, help me become more aware and appreciative of the beauty that surrounds me. Give me a heart of gratitude for all that you have provided. Amen.

Questions to Consider:

  1. How can you become more mindful of your blessings?
  2. Ask the Lord to arouse your five senses toward his goodness.
  3. Be sure to give thanks.  Practice a heart of gratitude!
