I Want Jesus to Be My Influencer

Who do you listen to? So many voices battle for our attention.  Without a doubt, I Want Jesus to Be My Influencer. I want to hear His voice which speaks hope and truth.

Story of Captivity

I recently listened to an interview with Mia Schem. Mia is a freed Israeli hostage, who was held in captivity for 55 days.  This young woman shares her story of arrest, isolation, and torment.  She has a spirit of resiliency and hope, which is evident throughout the interview.

Mia was isolated during the majority of her captivity.  However, shortly before release, Mia was transferred to join a small group of prisoners.  The interviewer remarked that the move must have been comforting.  After a long pause, Mia said that yes, the companionship was nice.  However, the move was also challenging because these prisoners had given up hope.  These fellow-captives were influencing Mia’s thoughts.  It was difficult for Mia to remain hopeful and positive when those around her felt defeated.

Influencers

We are so easily influenced by others.  Do you know that being an Influencer is a sought-after occupation?  In today’s social media platforms, Influencers can add serious credibility to a brand.  Some Influencers are paid big dollars to promote products and services to their faithful followers.  This begs the question, Who influences me and why?

I Want Jesus to Be My Influencer

Many Influencers come and go.  However, I will bet on Jesus.  He has been around since the beginning and amazingly, has no end.

In the beginning the Word was already there. The Word was with God. The Word was God. He was with God from the beginning. God made all things through the Word. God did not make anything without Him.  John 1:1-3

Let Jesus’ Record Speak for Itself

The above verses outline Jesus’ lengthy track record. His promises fill the Bible. Jesus speaks life, hope, and truth.  Mankind has experienced His influence and power for over 3000 years.

Consequently, I want to be known as a follower of Jesus.  I pray that I never have to endure anything close to Mia Schem’s story.  But whatever difficult circumstances I face; I want Jesus’ promises to direct my thinking and give me hope.  I Want Jesus to Be My Influencer.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, there are so many voices in the world vying for my attention.  Help me know You.  Help me discern truth from error.  Be My Influencer.  Amen.

Questions to Consider:

  1. What voices have you heard today? How to you know they are trustworthy?
  2. Do you turn to Jesus as your Influencer?  Why or why not?

Such a beautiful reflection, Maria. It’s amazing how many individuals turn to the pop-culture people of the day to be their influencer. Jesus is my daily influencer, and no other being is in front of my Lord.
