Jesus’ No Hassle Return Policy
I’ve never been much of an on-line shopper, because I hate returning items. However, that has changed with Amazon Prime. Amazon has made returns quick and easy. With limited effort, I can now return items free of charge and free of hassle! Interestingly, Jesus also has an amazing return policy. Jesus’ No Hassle Return Policy is unconditional. With no questions asked, Jesus welcomes us back when we wander from Him.
Prone to Wander
Have you ever found yourself far from God? I have. Unfortunately, we are all prone to wander. Why? Because the heart easily leads us astray.
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9
Self-pleasure is toxic and alluring, at least for a while. However, in the end, we are confronted with heartache, destruction, and disappointment.
Shame Keeps Us Away
Sometimes, we must be undone, before we recognize our need for Jesus. Maybe you can identify with these words in Isaiah:
I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips.” Isaiah 6:5
Finally, we humble ourselves and earnestly desire to return to God. However, there’s a problem. We are embarrassed. Shame fills us. Self-loathing makes us feel unworthy to approach a holy God.
Jesus’ No Hassle Return Policy
But remember…Jesus has a No Hassle Return Policy. He doesn’t ask questions. He gladly welcomes us back. In fact, He’s so excited to see us that He throws a celebration!
But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger, and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost but now is found.’ So, the party began. Luke 15:22-24
Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for your unconditional love. Help me remember that I can always return to you. You’ll be waiting with open arms to welcome me home. Amen.
