My Firm Foundation

Currently, the entire state of Oregon is experiencing a severe ice storm.  For several days, we have received ice upon ice in precipitation, making driving hazardous and walking outside a challenge.  Instead of a firm foundation, the thick ice is creating a slippery and choppy frozen surface.

During this ice storm, Steve and I are still waiting on the completion of our house remodel.  In the meantime, we are staying at a nearby bungalow where there is no garage.  Unfortunately, the entrance to the bungalow is in an alley, while the car is parked on a side street approximately a hundred yards away.  Because the alley is a glaze of ice, walking from the front door to the car is a hazardous journey.  I don’t want to fall; but it’s almost impossible to keep from slipping.

The Lord Is My Firm Foundation

As I’m struggling to stand upright, I recall that God is My Firm Foundation.  He keeps my feet from slipping.

When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. “ Psalm 94:18

You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.  2 Samuel 22:37

He will not let your foot slip.  He who watches over you will not slumber.  Psalm 121:3

Uphold my steps in Your paths, that my footsteps may not slip.  Psalm 17:5

Our Tendency is to Slip

Apparently, slipping is a problem!  Look at all the verses that mention it.  I need God’s love and support for stability. He anchors my soul and my feet!  Because God is My Firm Foundation, I desire to follow Him. He keeps my feet from slipping.

So, you must live as God’s obedient children.  Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires…1 Peter 1:14

My God and Savior, this ice storm is showing me how difficult it is to walk without physically falling.  Likewise, may I spiritually desire to obey You, so my feet will not slip.  Thank you for upholding me in Your love and being My Firm Foundation.

Questions to Consider:

  1. What or whom are you relying upon to walk upright?
  2. When you review the past week, what has caused your feet to slip?
