COVER ME WITH YOUR FEATHERS. SHELTER ME WITH YOUR WINGS.

Nestled Securely in the Arms of God

Nature often teaches us spiritual lessons. Today, two little robins remind me what it means to be Nestled Securely in the Arms of God.

The Perfect Spot

We have six flower baskets hanging from our deck. Every morning, I open the window shades and see beautifully blooming flowers. Lately, though, I’ve noticed I’m not the only one who enjoys them. A robin often greets me, perched right on the railing, keeping a careful watch. But what is he guarding?

As I watch, I see his mate—she’s busily flying back and forth to one of the baskets. Now I get it. They’ve found the perfect spot for their nest.

Shelter in Place

We’ve all heard the phrase shelter in place. It means stay put. Shelter in place is safety precaution, meaning stay put until danger passes.

Birds know this lesson well. When they build a nest, lay eggs, and raise their chicks, they instinctively seek a hidden, protected place where their little ones can grow in safety.

Seeking Refuge Amongst the Flowers

Inside a hanging flower basket is actually the perfect refuge! Tucked among the blossoms, the birds are out of reach from most predators, hidden from view, and even get a gentle watering from time to time. It’s a sweet little sanctuary—shelter, beauty, and provision all in one place.

Watching this tiny nest reminds me what it means to be Nestled Securely in the Arms of God!

Nestled Securely in the Arms of God

God’s embrace is our true place of safety. It’s where we can find rest as we release our cares and worries. When we are nestled securely in God’s arms, we can run to Him, confident that we are protected. No threat can break through His shield.

His massive arms are wrapped around you, protecting you.  You can run under his covering of majesty and hide.  His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm.   Psalms 91:4

A Visual Reminder

For now, I’ll be keeping an eye on my special flower basket and its feathered family. They are a sweet reminder that my Heavenly Father offers me, and you, a safe and permanent home, where we are always Nestled Securely in the Arms of God.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for showing me through nature how You watch over me and protect me from harm.  Instead of trying to do life on my own, help me run into Your loving arms again and again.  Amen.

Questions to Consider

  1. Do you run to God for protection?  Why or why not?
  2. How would you describe God’s loving embrace?
