Prone to Wander Lord I Feel It
I often wonder why I have certain dreams. What is their source? One night, I awoke to the following words rolling over in my mind. They are from the hymn, Come Thou Fount:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it.
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here’s my heart Lord take and seal it.
Seal it for Thy courts above.
Frankly, the words were a gut-punch. I know they are true. I can so easily go astray.
The Book of Hosea
The women in our church are currently studying the book of Hosea. This Old Testament prophet tends to get overlooked. Granted, his literary style is very difficult to understand. But as this Bible Study begins, I’ve already found a connection.
You see, the wife that Hosea is called to marry is named Gomer. Gomer is constantly wandering from God. At the same time, God is continually pursuing her. That pretty much sums up my life as well.
God is the Hound from Heaven
One fact is clear to me, as I pray for my own wandering heart and those of loved ones. God is the Hound from Heaven. He is always chasing after us.
A hound dog is a specific breed used for hunting. This enthusiastic and high energy animal is taught to track and chase prey. Their pursuit is so intent that it is difficult for them to stand down.
I smile when I think of God in terms of the Hound from Heaven. I like the analogy because God is habitually chasing after me. Even when I turn my back on Him, God never gives up on me.
Prone to Wander Lord I Feel It
Thankfully, I recognize my wandering heart. It humbles me. It makes me acknowledge the power of sin.
I am also so grateful that the Lord has claimed me as His own. Amazingly, God calls me His beloved. Because of His deep love, He chases after me when I stray, and brings me back to Him.

Prayer

Dear Father, it is hard for me to comprehend the depth of your everlasting love. I am in awe that My beloved is mine, and I am His, as Song of Solomon 2:16a says. Thank you for always wooing me and pursuing me. Amen.

I’m thanking you for songs with closed captions and images that help me focus ‘my eyes upon Jesus’. With hearing loss, I appreciate helps that quickly guide me from wandering wondering thought patterns. Lvb

Maria,
Even when I think I am not wondering the Lord reveals to me the depth of my wandering.

I know what you mean Terry. Our hearts are so deceitful. Yet, the Lord continues to love us, no matter what. That’s amazing love!
