Waiting, Watching, Wonder, and Welcome

Merry Christmas, my friends!  Today we celebrate the birth of Jesus!  The past four weeks of Advent are over.  Because Advent means arrival, our posture has been one of waiting, watching, wonder, and welcome.  We have been eagerly preparing for Jesus, because this child will change the world!

Waiting and Watching:  Words of Expectation

Our waiting and watching are finally over.  The one whom we have been longing for has arrived!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6

Jesus has come to earth as a baby, to save us from our sin, and to usher in the Kingdom of God.

Wonder and Welcome:  Words of Invitation

Now it is time to embrace what we have received.  May our wonder of Jesus never cease for what this baby represents is beyond our wildest imagination!

Am I ready to welcome Jesus in?  Am I prepared to receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior?  Now that He has arrived, Jesus is the one waiting.  He’s waiting for us to open the door and invite Him in.

Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.  Revelation 3:20

Waiting, Watching, Wonder, and Welcome

Waiting, Watching, Wonder, and Welcome:  Four words, all beginning with W.  It’s a winning combination!

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Son.  May my anticipation and awe of Jesus never stop.  In your precious name, Amen.

Questions to Consider:

  1. Have you welcomed Jesus into your heart? If not, what is holding you back?
  2. How can you grow in your wonder of Jesus during the coming year?

    Maria,
What a beautiful reflection on the birth of our Savior! Today marks the actual beginning of the Christmas season and is my favorite time. Each day until the Epiphany just increases the celebration of our Lord’s birth.
Merry Christmas to you and Steve! We love you dear friends!

Thanks Terry. Yes, such a good reminder… that the celebration of Jesus’ birth isn’t contained to one day, but continues on through the Epiphany and actually through every day of our lives! Merry Christmas to you and Joni!
