When I Feel My Foot is Slipping
It’s that time of year. The temperature is falling, and the possibility of snow is ever-present. I recently had traction tires put on my car. The tires give me more confidence with winter-driving. The car is less likely to slide and is easier to maneuver on snow and ice. However, winter isn’t the only time of year that I must be careful. Psalms 94:18-19 talks about When I Feel My Foot is Slipping.
When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your love, O Lord supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. Psalms 94:18-19
Steadfastness is the Key
Granted, no one wants to slip and fall. As I age, I walk more cautiously, especially on terrain that is uneven, or when frost and ice cover the ground. In these conditions, I use walking sticks to give me surety and stability. But when I think about it, I desire steadiness—to remain on an even keel, in all of life.
The Bible has a lot to say about steadfastness. In fact, my life verse has this word. The steadfast of mind, thou will keep in perfect peace because her mind is stayed on You. Isaiah 26:3
In another version this same verse reads, You will keep her in perfect peace, Who mind is stayed on You, Because she trusts in You.
Steadfastness means firm or unwavering. When we have steadfastness in God, the result is peace because we are trusting in the Lord and not in ourselves.
When I Feel My Foot is Slipping

Although steadfastness is the goal, we all can find ourselves in precarious situations when we start to slip. Perhaps we’ve received bad news, been betrayed, or lost a loved one. When we lose our balance, it is difficult to steady ourselves. For these times, Psalms 94:18-19 is a great reminder. When I trip on the difficulties of life, the Lord holds me up with His love. His comfort brings joy to my anxious soul.
Dear Lord of Heaven and Earth, thank you for your steadfast love. You support me in good times and bad. When I feel my foot is slipping, I can be confident that you are right beside me. Amen.
Questions to Consider:
- Describe a time when you felt like your foot was slipping.
- During this unsteadiness, how did the Lord support you and give you stability?

Maria,
So many slips and falls in life. Without the Lord, it is very difficult to get back up. I have learned that those falls are part of my journey. I have the ability now to accept them as my cross for the love of Christ.
