Wait for It!

Wait for It!

It’s nesting time.  With spring comes new life.  I wake each morning to the constant chirping of the newest arrivals.  I anticipate this wake-up call.  As soon the morning light penetrates the darkness, the hunger cries begin.  I wait for it.

Watching the Nest

The nesting process is happening just outside our living room window.  A robin has, with uncanny speed and skill, built a perfect little home.  It wasn’t there yesterday.  But today it sits snug and finished– perched on top of our backyard security light—tucked away in an obscure corner.

Patiently Waiting

I can’t see the eggs, but I assume they are there.  Proud momma robin sits alert, watchful, nurturing.

The waiting begins.

Wait for It

The robin seems far more patient than I am.  She sits and sits… and waits.

I start to worry.  It seems like momma has been sitting on those eggs a long time.

I check on the gestation period which is close to two weeks. Has it been longer than that?  Why aren’t the eggs hatching?  Has something gone wrong?

Waiting on God

This patient robin is a good reminder of how I should wait upon God.  I must learn to wait with calm confidence and peace and not allow worry to consume me.  God will bring about what He has promised. I can trust Him.

I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart be courageous.  Wait for the Lord.

Psalm 27:13-14

May I learn to Wait for It.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, thank you for the spiritual lessons you teach through the simple, faithful rhythms of creation. Like the robin, may I learn to wait without fear– trusting You as the giver of every good thing.  Amen.

Questions to Consider:

  1. Do you consider yourself a patient person?
  2. What tests your patience the most?
  3. What are you currently waiting on the Lord to do?
